NCUI headquarters at August Kranti Road in Delhi was thronged by cooperators and their supporters as it was a day for filing nomination for securing a berth in the Governing Council of apex body. Several of new as well as outgoing GC members filed their nominations.
Some of the notable cooperators who filled their nomination papers included Shri G H Amin, the outgoing Vice-Chairman of NCUI, Uttrakhand State Cooperative Union Chairman Pramod Kumar Singh and Fishcopfed Chairman Prakash Lonare.
Talking to Indian Cooperative Pramod Kumar Singh said if elected he would try his level best to get the provison of income tax exemption implemented for the cooperatives. He accepted that the issue threatens the very existence of the cooperative movement. He also promised to address issues concerning the welfare of NCUI staffs and called them a part of the family.
Lonare who sounded satisfied with the performance of Fishcopfed said that he aimes at making NCUI self-reliant financially so that it stops looking at government for any grant. Lonare is fighting for the first time. He had earlier decided to quit in favour of Ashok Dabas but later changed his mind and filed nominations on Thursday.
A tensed G H Amin however refused to talk to this correspondent. Obviously he was being careful not to utter a word which may jeopardize his chances.
The cut off time for filing nomination is tomorrow and a final list of valid nominations would be pasted on the NCUI notice board on Friday evening. The list after withdrawal would come on Saturday and that list would clarify the number of constituencies where voting would take place on the 16th March.
