Community gathers to celebrate Minnesota cooperative for its generosity

ST. PAUL, MINN., July 11, 2014 — More than 1,200 people gathered in Deer River, Minn., yesterday to recognize a local business that has been doing its part to give back to the community. Children and adults of all ages flooded the area surrounding the Cenex® convenience store owned by Northern Star Cooperative in Deer River to attend the Cenex® Tanks of Thanks® Community Celebration.

The CHS-hosted event is designed to reward and celebrate a Cenex retailer’s commitment to making a meaningful impact on the community and its residents. Northern Star Cooperative and its Cenex retail location were selected from 1,400 eligible Cenex stores to receive the special event to recognize the company’s ongoing support of the Deer River community and its economic development.

“The efforts that Northern Start Cooperative and its Cenex store make toward supporting their community is truly inspiring,” said Akhtar Hussain, refined fuels marketing manager for CHS. “As a team, employees from Northern Star Cooperative and its Cenex retail location have shown what it means to be an active part of the community.”

Attendees enjoyed a community cookout, music, inflatable games and carnival-themed activities.

The event also featured a raffle for a variety of prizes, including gift cards for free fuel.

“We are thrilled to share this celebration with the entire community and that so many people came out to join us today,” said Dave Delawyer, general manager of Northern Star Cooperative. “Giving back and making contributions to the communities we serve is at the core of everything we do as a cooperative. We are honored to be recognized for the programs we believe make a difference to the people we serve.”

“We hope the contributions from Northern Star Cooperative and the local Deer River Cenex store will inspire others to do their part in making their communities just a little bit better,” said Hussain.
