AMPI Young Cooperators elect leaders

NEW ULM, Minn. (April 10, 2015) — Jacob and Sarah Enter of Nicollet, Minn., are the 2015 Young Cooperator (YC) chairpersons for Associated Milk Producers Inc. (AMPI). Fellow YCs elected the couple during the spring annual meeting of the Midwest milk marketing cooperative. The YC program is open to AMPI members age 40 and under.

“Through tours and local meetings, the AMPI YC program connects nearly 200 of the co-op’s younger members each year,” Jacob says. “Meeting with the board of directors and executive management team gives us an inside look into our co-op’s business. The networking and learning that goes on at a YC event raises our standards, making it possible to improve each of our farms and achieve success together as a cooperative.”

The Enters will work with fellow YC steering committee members to plan and host events throughout the year. Other members of the committee are: past chairperson, Dustin Dobberstein, New Richland, Minn.; vice chairpersons, Derek and Marcie Peterson, Black River Falls, Wis.; secretaries, Mark and Kimber Sipma, Boyden, Iowa; and member-at-large, Jon Schmidt, Owatonna, Minn.

YCs who will serve as division chairpersons include: Brent Mergen, Albany, Minn.; Scott and Stephanie Krueger, Arlington, Minn.; John and Renee Kotek, Bangor, Wis.; John and Tammy Morgal, Cadott, Wis.; Dustin Dobberstein, New Richland, Minn.; Stefan and Miranda Maassen, Orange City, Iowa; and Josh and Rachel Blough, Waterloo, Iowa.

Looking ahead, AMPI YCs will be traveling to Sanborn, Iowa, June 22-23 for the annual YC summer tour. The event will feature tours of the AMPI Sanborn cheese plant, milk hauling fleet and intake area, as well as area member farms.

AMPI is headquartered in New Ulm, Minn., and owned by 2,500 Midwest dairy farm families from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota. AMPI members annually market about 5.8 billion pounds of milk, resulting in $2.2 billion in sales for the cooperative. AMPI owns 10 manufacturing plants and markets cheese, butter and powdered dairy products, serving foodservice, retail and food ingredient customers.
